3. How many hours will my projector lamp work?

Just like any light bulb you would use for another purpose, projector bulbs have an expected operating time, called lamp life. This value is expressed in number of hours - typically 1000 to 2000 hours. Newer models are claiming 4000 hours of lamp life and more. The lamp's success rate is based on a bell curve, so that a majority of (but not all) lamps will meet the lamp life hours specified. Some lamps will fail sooner and this is part of the acceptable operating range of the rating.

For projectors that are used under normal operating conditions (no more than three to five hours per day in a clean, relatively dust-free environment) the lamp will have the greatest likelihood of lasting through its entire rated lamp life. Projectors that are used more often or are exposed to environmental contaminants are more likely to show a decrease in lamp life. Projectors that are operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week are at the highest likelihood of lamp failure before the end of the rated hours.
Most manufactures offer a lamp rating, please refer to your owners manual for the information.

4. How can I preserve my projectors performance?

Make sure when turning off your projector that you let it cool down sufficiently before unplugging it. Failure to do so may result in an immediate loss of the lamp. Repeated disregard of the cool-down feature will eventually cause your projector to stop functioning altogether. Some new projector offer an Instant off feature, it's our recommendation to allow the projector to cool for at least 5 minutes prior to moving the projector, and a minimum of 30 minutes if you are replacing the lamp.

We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping the filter clean and openings clear of dust and lint. We offer many replacement AIR FITERS for your projector, they can be Found Here If you don?t see the filter you are looking for just give us a call 1-866-764-4580 and we will happy to help locate it for you.
Make sure the projector has ample "breathing room" with adequate ventilation, so that the unit doesn't overheat, putting extra pressure on the motor and the lamp

5. What are the common causes of lamp failure?

The most common causes are over heating and over voltage – consider power protection for your electronics

13. Optoma Canada Tips to Extend Projector Lamp Life

Lamp life for a projector will vary based on many factors including application, installation, intake of cool air and exhaust of hot air, usage, and proper maintenance. Heat buildup can reduce lamp life and even damage your projector.

Here are some tips to help your projector lamps last longer

  1. Once you turn on your projector, wait at least five minutes before turning it off to allow the fan to properly cool the unit. After the fan has cooled your projector, you may unplug it and store it as desired.
  2. Do not obstruct the air intake or exhaust vent. Paper should not be placed on top of a projector.
  3. Keep the exhaust vent at least two feet from any object.
  4. If the projector is built into a compartment, wall, ceiling or shelf mount, the minimum distance requirement (usually at least two feet) stated in your owners manual must be maintained.
  5. Clean the projector's air intake filter every three to six months -- or more frequently -- based on your operating environment.
  6. Do not move your projector until the lamp has cooled (about five minutes).
  7. Run your projector for two weeks and/or 20 hours shortly after your purchase. If the lamp is going to fail, it will usually occur within the first ten hours of operation. Lamp warranties typically last just 90 days from the date of purchase, rather than the first installation.

14. Did you Buy a Optoma Certified Lamp ?

http://www.optomausa.com/warningLamp.asp There is an increasing amount of counterfeit lamps being sold, and to protect your investment, we recommend using only authentic Optoma lamps in your Optoma projector or display.

Why should I buy authentic Optoma lamps?

  • Genuine Optoma lamps have been tested and designed to work specifically in your Optoma projector. Counterfeit lamps could cause damage to electrical components in your projector or display.
  • Installing a non-genuine Optoma lamp in an Optoma projector or display will void your projector/display's warranty. Repairs resulting from damage done by the non-certified lamp will not be covered under the limited warranty.
  • Counterfeit lamps can also have reduced performance and significantly reduced life expectancy.
Where can I buy authentic Optoma lamps?
  • We have Authorized Optoma Dealers nationwide. Please visit our Web site at www.optoma.ca and click on Where to Buy. http://www.optoma.ca/onlineretailers.asp

How do I know if I have a genuine Optoma lamp?

Pricing can be one of the easiest ways to spot a fake Optoma lamp. If the price is much lower than the price of a genuine Optoma lamp, it most likely is not genuine. We have professionals that can help confirm the authenticity of your lamp. Contact Optoma Customer Service at 877-361-2581

15. Say NO to Copy Lamps

Copy Lamps / Branded Lamps – We do not supply any kind of imitation lamp that uses a different bulb. When you purchase a Manufacture lamp from us, that is what you will receive! Independent tests have shown that Copy lamps underperform versus the above options and often prove to be a false economy due to their poor build quality, poor lifetime and poor brightness. We do not want to compromise our reputation with our customers
